Every Stereographer's challenge includes working with a creative team to help envision and then execute a series of stereo decisions. Developed by I3DS Japan Committee Chairman, Professor Takashi Kawai, who serves on the Science and Engineering faculty of Waseda University, stereo mapping is a process which simply and visibly graphs the negative and positive parallax (by degree) of a particular scene.

The "Stereo Chart" above is a review of the calculated parallax for a final scene in the 2011 Society Lumiere™ Award Winner "Tangled".  Fifty (50) inch screen and three (3) times of the height (3H) viewing distance was simulated.  And just as early explorers mapped newly discovered worlds, this ability to "Chart" 3D content may well serve as a valuable learning tool for professionals planning their 3D story-telling.

Special Thanks to Robert Neuman, Stereographic Supervisor for "Tangled" at Walt Disney Animation Studios.
